Being a racehorse trainer isn’t a regular nine-to-five job nevertheless Warrenpoint native Leanne Breen has gone into the challenging sport with her eyes wide open; she has learnt from the best, now she is equipped to making a name for herself within the training ranks.

Breen is no novice to the sport; she is fully qualified in Equine management – and to further her career and get a better understanding of everything she worked alongside high-profile trainers including; David O’Meara, Willie McCreery, James Cummings in Sydney, and Mark Johnston; she had a diversity of roles within them respected yards; from being a rider, travelling assistant and yard manager.

Speaking of her valuable working experience Breen stated; “I think working for such prolific group one trainers was the best education I could have ever achieved – they all had different techniques but the primary factor is to have the horses fit, heathy and happy and they will find there grade whether it be a class six race at Wolverhampton or a Group one at the Curragh”.

Breen’s new dual-purpose yard is located on the outskirts of Warrenpoint, in the North of Ireland.

She was fortunate enough to acquire a yard of such high-standards in her initial year of training thoroughbreds. Her exceptional yard is as good, if not better than some of the superior yards in Ireland and beyond; there is no explanation for her not to prosper – thus far her horses are taking to their fresh environments notable well and the winter series at Dundalk is their main objective.

Every coherent trainer must have ambitions and goals to enable them to endeavour to grow their brand further- alongside sustaining a business model; Breen is no different – She quickly added “Obviously for any yard starting out it’s all about having owners and winners. We are confident we have a strong expanding team – who will be targeted at Dundalk stadium races; our local track for their winter series.

“We we are always trying to attract new owners; our door is always open for anyone who wants to watch our horses on the gallops and to meet my meticulous team” added Breen.

Warrenpoint is in close proximity to Down Royal, Downpatrick and Dundalk racecourses; the locals don’t have to travel to far to get to see the horsey action – we questioned Breen have the locals got behind her since she took out her licence; she responded “Yes we have had a lot of interest from local owners which is great. We plan to form a racing club to give people the chance to experience the excitement of racehorse ownership without the colossal bills. We also have several horses for sale privately in the yard; there is something for everyone’s budget.
